Finding Summerhill in theory isn't too difficult, Hartlepool BC in their wisdom have erected excellent signage from both the North & South entrances to the town directing you to the site. Be sure at all times to keep an eye out for big brown "Summerhill" as you start to approach Hartlepool. Directions From the South Step One Coming from the South you will need to take the A19 which connects from the A1(m) near a place called Dishforth (Junction 49). Take the A19 and head for Teesside, it is about 40 miles down. Step Two Head along the A19, through Middlesborough and Billingham until you reach the turn off for the the A689. Take this turn and turn right at the round-a-bout at the top (heading towards the services and Mc Donalds etc). Step Three Follow the A689 over the services round-a-bout and along to the next round-a-bout where you will be heading straight on towards Hartlepool. Follow the A689 through the village of Newton Bewley and into town, you will pass the Greatham turn off and go through two sets of traffic lights. At the third set of lights take a left (there is a large brown sign at these lights saying "Summerhill"). Follow the road down until you reach another set of traffic lights and a small shopping arcade with a pub called The Fens. Turn right at these lights (there is another Summerhill sign) and follow the road, Catcote Road, along through the town Step Four
You will
pass numerous shopping arcades and two secondary schools, keep a look out
after passing
the second school with the rugby and football pitches opposite, you will see some huge limestone signs saying
Summerhill on your left as you start to head down a hill. Turn left
here and follow the road along to the visitors centre. There is loads of
parking as well as toilets, changing rooms, lockers
and drinks machines. To find the track itself look right from the
visitors center at the big hill with the huge yellow thing cut into the
side. If you
find these a bit too complicated
click here to see the exact location on an OS map. If you have any
further problems finding the site give the very helpful visitors center a
call on (01429) 284584.
